Place settings
The standard unit dishwasher manufacturers use to describe how much a machine can hold.
A "place setting" is a standardised bundle of plates, bowls, cutlery and a glass, defined by test standards like EN 50242, used to describe dishwasher capacity consistently across brands. A 60cm dishwasher typically holds 12 to 15 place settings, while a slimline 45cm model holds 9 to 10. It's a more useful capacity figure than internal litres because it reflects how many actual place settings, not just volume, you can realistically wash in one cycle.
