Bosch and Siemens Launch Their First Heat-Pump Washer-Dryers

Bosch and Siemens each announced their first heat-pump washer-dryer on 2 September 2026 at IFA 2026 in Berlin, and both companies say the machines will reach the market in March 2027. The two brands are siblings under BSH Home Appliances Group, so this is an unusual same-day matchup: two competing all-in-one wash-and-dry machines from the same manufacturing group, launching within the same window, with real specifications a shopper can already set side by side.

What is a heat-pump washer-dryer?

A washer-dryer combines a washing machine and a tumble dryer in one drum, so a load goes from wash to dry without moving it. Most existing combo machines dry using a conventional condenser, which is energy-hungry. A heat-pump version uses a heat pump for the drying stage instead, the same principle used in heat-pump tumble dryers, and both manufacturers point to that swap as the source of their efficiency claims.

What is Bosch launching?

Bosch’s new machine is part of its Series 8 range. Bosch says it saves up to 20 litres of water and 55 percent of the energy compared with its conventional condenser-technology washer-dryers. The company rates the machine’s washing performance at A-20 percent, meaning 20 percent more efficient than the Class A threshold, with the drying side rated Class A. Bosch also lists a Self Clean System that removes lint and cleans the condenser, evaporator and filters automatically during every cycle, so there is no separate maintenance step.

Bosch is also adding features for daily use. Smart Start can time a wash to a renewable-energy window or the cheapest tariff slot, based on the user’s own energy contract. The i-DOS dosing system now includes a detergent scan function: scan a detergent or softener bottle through the Home Connect app, which calculates the right dose, and Bosch says the combination cuts detergent use by up to 38 percent. Iron Assist claims a 50 percent crease reduction using steam, and an Anti Stain function, via Home Connect, offers 18 programmes that adapt to a specific stain type without pre-treatment. The machine keeps standard dimensions of 845 by 598 by 590 mm, fitting a standard niche. Bosch has not disclosed a model number, price or drum capacity.

What is Siemens launching?

Siemens is calling its version the iQ700 heat-pump washer-dryer, model WL64B2A40, and describes it as the brand’s first 2-in-1 heat-pump washer-dryer. It pairs a full-size 11 kg wash drum with a 6 kg drying capacity in standard dimensions. Siemens rates the combined wash-and-dry cycle at Class A, and says the washing function alone uses 42 kWh per 100 cycles against a 53 kWh per 100-cycle limit for the Class A threshold, a 20 percent margin.

Siemens lists intelligentClean, an automatic system that flushes the evaporator, condenser and an extra filter with water during every cycle to clear lint without user intervention, and gentleDry, which it says dries at temperatures up to 40 percent lower than a conventional condenser washer-dryer, recommended for wool, down and outdoor clothing. A smartFinish steam function claims the same up-to-50-percent crease reduction as Bosch’s Iron Assist, and the machine can target stains such as grass or coffee automatically once the user selects the stain type. Siemens also cites a quick-cycle figure: 80 minutes to wash and dry a 1 kg reference load, a small test load, not the machine’s full 11 kg capacity.

Alongside the standard iQ700 version, Siemens is showing an iconicEdition variant of the same washer-dryer line. Siemens describes it as the first washing machines and tumble dryers in the industry made from a glass-like material with a high-gloss black finish, controlled through a minimalist touchscreen with full voice control via Home Connect or Alexa. Siemens has not published a price for either version.

Why the same day, same technology?

Both announcements came out of confirmed BSH press activity at IFA 2026 in Hall 1.1. Siemens describes itself as Europe’s leading supplier of built-in home appliances, and both its home appliance division and Bosch’s have been part of BSH Home Appliances Group since 1967, which explains why two nominally competing brands launched matching products on the same day.

What this means if you are shopping now

Neither machine can be bought yet. Both are due in March 2027, so anyone comparing washer-dryers today is looking at a wait-and-see case, not a live purchase decision. The figures worth tracking once BSH publishes them are price and, for Bosch, the model number and drum capacity it has not yet disclosed. Until then, the manufacturers’ own claims, Bosch’s 55 percent energy saving and Siemens’ 20 percent margin over the Class A washing threshold, give a first read on how the two are likely to compare once independent energy-label figures land in EPREL.
