Samsung Launches Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer Lineup

Samsung Electronics announced a new Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer lineup on 28 July 2026, adding fabric-sensing AI wash and dry cycles, a 7-inch touchscreen control panel and a SmartThings energy-tracking mode to its laundry range. The company says the rollout began in July 2026, with availability varying by region and model; no UK or German launch date or price has been published yet.

The announcement, carried on Samsung’s UK and global newsroom sites, names two model families covered by the update: washers in the WF90H1C4 range and dryers in the DV90F* range (Samsung’s own notation, with the asterisks standing in for regional and colour variants rather than a single fixed model number).

What the new AI features actually do

On the washer, a system called AI Wash+ uses sensors to detect load weight and up to five fabric types (cotton, delicates, towels, denim and outdoor wear, for loads up to 2kg), then automatically sets water and detergent amounts and monitors soil levels during the cycle, adjusting detergent use and wash time if needed.

On the dryer, AI Dry+ senses moisture level, drying temperature and up to four fabric types (normal, denim, towels, delicates), and adjusts the inverter compressor and heat exchanger to match. Samsung’s own testing, comparing its DV9400D against the older DV5000D on an Eco Cotton cycle with a 2kg mixed-fabric load, found AI Dry+ cut energy use and drying time by up to 20%.

Both machines share a 7-inch Smart Screen touchscreen that remembers usage habits and suggests cycles, plus Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant for hands-free commands like starting a cycle or adding an extra rinse. After each wash, the SmartThings app shows a laundry report including energy and water use.

What the energy claims mean for a running-cost estimate

The headline figure in Samsung’s announcement is its AI Energy Mode inside SmartThings Energy: on compatible washer cycles, Samsung claims up to a 70% cut in energy use by combining AI Ecobubble technology (washing at lower temperatures) with an extended cycle time. The dryer’s equivalent mode is rated up to 20%.

Both are the manufacturer’s own tested figures, not independently verified, and the washer’s 70% claim applies only when a compatible cycle is actually selected, not as a blanket reduction across every wash. The washer is a 24-inch standard-depth design, sold in 9kg to 11kg capacities; the matching dryer comes in a single 9kg capacity. Beyond that, Samsung’s announcement is deliberately light on specifics that matter most to a buyer: there is no confirmed price, no exact UK or German release date, and no independent energy-label class yet, since new models only receive a registered EPREL entry once they are formally placed on the market in a given country.

For now, this is a manufacturer announcement of a lineup, not yet a set of buyable models with confirmed local specs.
